HS Registration (the basics)
If no action taken, students will be
assigned automatically to their districted
school (based on the location of their
residence)
 You will soon be receiving a letter from
SSA+S stating what high school your
districted for (with Q2 report cards)
 You only register at your DISTRICTED high
school UNLESS you have been accepted
into a specific program or school choice
 Must have proof of acceptance to register at
a different district/charter/magnet school


Manatee School Choice

Parents who would like their children to attend a Manatee
County public school in 2015-2016 other than their districted
school are invited to submit a school choice application

Space is limited

Applications can be submitted between Jan 13th – Jan
23rd, 2015 ONLY– these are to be submitted by the
parents/guardians directly to the Office of Student
Assignment per the instructions on the form (we have the
forms at SSAS front desk and Counselor’s office)

If applying to attend a high school academy, contact
school directly for Academy application


Programs to Choose

Booker High School Visual and
Performing Arts Program (VPA)

Visual and Performing Arts Program: The VPA is an
intensive, pre-professional arts program for passionate students
with a talent in either the visual or performing arts.

Disciplines: Dance, Digital & Motion Design, Music, Theatre and
Visual Art.

Candidates are selected based on an audition (for performing
arts) or portfolio review (for visual arts), along with a review of
transcripts and letters of recommendation.

VPA Magnet Night will be at 6:30 p.m. January 22 in the VPA
Theatre, 3201 N. Orange Ave.
The VPA audition is at 9 a.m. on Feb. 21. (theater can audition at
SSAS – see Mr. Stone for details)
Students can make an appointment for an audition or to shadow
VPA students by calling Judy Piercy at (941) 355-2967, ext. 65215.



Suncoast Polytechnical High School
College preparatory, rigorous academic and career-focused
curriculum.
All programs offer career preparation clinical rotations, on-thejob training, and/or internship experiences.
Must apply to be admitted – only accepting up to 150 students
per grade each year.



Individualized instruction, structure and discipline, enforced dress
codes

Unique classes (e.g., fencing, self defense, weight-lifting,
aviation, sailing, equitation, JROTC, etc.)

Now offers IB (International Baccalaureate Diploma program
(must apply to this program to gain acceptance)


Baccalaureate Program (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB)
Diploma Program is a rigorous & Advanced,
pre-university course of studies


Pine View School

Pine View is a special program designed to meet
the unique needs of intellectually gifted students
in grades two through twelve

Students may be referred to Pine View by


Children are admitted based on a series of tests,
recommendations and other pertinent data as
required by the State Department of Education.



Keep checking team news for high school updates

If you are interested in applying to a high school magnet
program, SMA, or Suncoast Polytech, contact those
schools directly (or any Manatee County Schools)

All 8th grade students should meet with their advisor
here at SSAS at some point before the end of February to
assist in HS planning

We will be presenting this to the students and we will
give them a packet to take home

