Badminton
History of:
Badminton was first know as “Poona”and was first
seen in India. English army officers introduced it to
England in 1870. I was introduced to the U.S.in the late
`1890’s
Equipment:
Net 5ft.
Racket
Shuttlecock/Birdie
First Server of the game determined by coin toss
Serving




Underhand /cross-court
Serve from right side first then alternate sides as you
score.
One server each side to start game…2 servers for the
rest of the game.
The cross-court player must receive serve.

Re-Serve


Let serve- if the serve hits the net and lands cross –court in
the appropriate serving area
Any serve in which you swing and completely miss the birdie
Scoring and other Rules

Scoring:



Play to 15 win by 2
Only score when your team is serving
Rule Infractions:






Wood Shot: when the birdie hits the edge of the racket
Racket can not break the plane of the net
Racket can not come in contact with the net
If cross court player does not receive the serve
Shuttlecock hit out of play (landing on the line is in)
One hit to return shuttlecock
