2 x 1 ft
Four 120 volt outlets
Four 12 volt outlets
• How?
Parallel circuits
one 12 volt power supply
one 120 volt power supply
Toggle switches 12 volts
light switches for 120 volts
The Wicked winch Of
the West
• Context within play
Dan claims to have what the man needs, he
points to a box, causing a scarf to rise out of the
box.
• How?
With a winch constructed of a 140 rpm motor,
fishing line, and wood. The motor was wired to a
single pull double throw switch to allow it to raise
and lower
• Effect on the Audience?
The effect was not meant to be seamless and
although it was visible it was well received by our
client and his audience.
• Improvements/problems?
Issues with the scarf, also initial difficulties
stopping the scarf. A safety stopping the winch at a
certain point rectified that problem.
Spinning
• How?
A 30 rpm motor attached to a rod
inserted in the scarf. Attached to the same
apparatus as the light/color change
implementer.
• Effect on the Audience
In connection with the winch, it was
well received as a suitable marketing
display for a scarf in an arcane shop.
• Improvements/problems
Could have been slower. If the winch
didn’t stop in time, the motor would be
lifted into the air, rendering it useless.
Lights, camera, action!
• Context
A scarf magically changes color to
suit the Man’s “forseen” needs.
• How?
A flood light covered with theater gel.
• Effect on the Audience
Lended itself credibly to the play
altthough obviously contrived
• Improvements/problems
The lights had to be dimmed in order
for the effect to work properly. We turned
it on too soon.
Sound Effect
• Context?
The phone rings
• How?
A alarm clock ringer attached to
a push switch
• Effect on the Audience
They could tell that a phone was
ringing.
• Improvements/Problems
The actor broke the switch’s
housing
Illusions Of Grandeur
• Context
The Man stole a costly orb, but as
Dan searches for it, the orb
magically reappears on its podium
• How?
a solenoid, a lever and a weight
• Effect on the Audience?
They didn’t know how it was
done.
• Problems/Improvements
None that we can think of.
Snap, Crackle and POP!
• Context
The man reaches out to touch one
balloon near his desk, and all three pop.
• How
Door lock motors wired in parallel and
safety pins.
• Effect on the Audience
They were surprised and impressed that
all three popped at once. They didn’t know
how we did it.
• Problems, Improvements
There was a distinct possibility that one
or more of the balloons wouldn’t pop.
