The History of the USA
• Four hundred years ago went to America
British people, the Pilgrims. Only native
Americans lived there. The Pilgrims left
England from a town called Plymouth and
now there is a town in the USA with the same
name. The Pilgrims took their language to
America. So the Americans and the British
speak the same language – but with some
differences!
Geographical location of the USA

• The United States of America are situated in
the southern part of the North American
continent. It’s washed by the Pacific Ocean in
west and Atlantic Ocean in east. The USA is a
large country. It also includes Alaska in the
North and Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. The
USA borders on Canada in the north and on
Mexico in the south. It has a sea-boarder with
Russia.
States and Capitals of the United States
The United States consists of 50 states. Each state has a capital,
which is the center of the state government.
Rivers and Lakes
• There are many rivers and lakes in the United States.
The longest rivers in the USA are the Mississipi, the
Missouri and the Rio Grande. There are 10 000 lakes
in the north of the USA. The Great Lake on the
border with Canada are the largest and deepest in
the country.
• The USA is the country of lowlands and mountains.
The highest mountains are the Rocky Mountain, the
Cordillera and the Nevada.
Natural attractions of the USA
• There are many natural
wonders in the USA.
The most widely known
is Niagara Falls. It is
an Indian word which
means “roaring waters”.
Other attractions are
Yellowstone and
Yosemite National
Parks, Grand Canyon,
and the vast desert
between Salt Lake City
and Reno, Nevada.

Mount Rushmore
Flag of the United States is the official national flag of the
United States.
It consists of 13 horizontal stripes, 7 red alternating with 6
white, and in the upper corner near the staff, a
rectangular blue field, or canton, containing 50 fivepointed white stars.
The stars represent the 50 states of the Union.
Because of its stars, stripes, and colors, the American flag
is frequently called the Star-Spangled Banner, the Stars
and Stripes, or the Red, White, and Blue.

1782.

The Washington monument is a large
white-colored obelisk at the west end
of the National Mall in Washington ,
D.C.
The monument is 169 m. in height
and is made of marble, granite and
sandstone.
It was designed by Robert Mills , a
great American architect.
•Thirty-six columns, representing the States of the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death,
support the roof of the building . The beautiful marble figure of the murdered
president which is inside the building
•The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated on
Memorial Day-May 30,1922.

residence of the President
of the United States of America.
The Liberty Bell is a huge
bronze bell that symbolizes
freedom in the United
States of America. This historic
bell is located in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania , USA.
• The Statue of Liberty is a huge sculpture that is located on Liberty
Island in New York Harbor. This monument was a gift to the USA
from the people of France in recognition of the French-American
alliance during the American Revolution.
• The Statue pictures a woman who has escaping the chains of
tyranny (the broken chains lie at her feet)
• Liberty’s right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty.
• The Statue was designed by the French sculptor Frederic
Bartholdi.
• It was built in France-in July,1884.
• It was brought to the USA in 350 pieces on a French ship called
the
“Isere” (in June,1885)
• There are 354 steps inside the statue and its pedestal. There are
25 windows in the crown. The seven rays of Liberty’s crown symbol
the seven seas and seven continents of the world.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is
a monumental granite sculpture which represents the first 150
years of the history of the USA with 18 m sculptures of the
heads of former United States presidents :George
Washington(1732-1799),Thomas Jefferson
(174 3 -1826),Theodore Roosevelt(1858-1919),and Abraham
Lincoln(1809-1865).

The memorial attracts approximately 2 million people every
year.
South Beach
• South Beach is famously filled with energy,
celebrity sightings and beautiful people. South
Beach is a section of Miami Beach, Florida that
encompasses the southern most 23 blocks of
the island separating the Atlantic Ocean and
Biscayne Bay. For nature lovers, a popular
attraction is the Everglades National Park.

Tourists can see many interesting things there.
In the Public Garden one can go boating on a boat
which has a shape of a swan. Every year Boston
Marathon takes place in Boston. Many people take
part in it.

• Los Angeles is very big, noisy and famous all
over the world because there is Hollywood. In
Hollywood American films are made. And near
Los Angeles there is wonderful fairy land
called Disneyland. In Disneyland you can see
the characters from Walt Disney’s films.
