Introduction (1)
 The ideal situation is to disseminate all data of a
country from one organization and it is reasonable
for National Statistical Organisations (NSOs) of the
countries to be this very one organization in the
country.
 For the NSOs to be able to undertake this
responsibility, it is for sure that their statistical
capacities should be at a satisfactory level.
 Training programmes of the institutions are very
important insturments to improve the statistical
capacities of the NSOs.

Introduction (2)
If there are a number of countries located in
a certain region with same kind of interests
then it is very reasonable that they build a
common strategy.
For this reason, SESRIC appreciates the
efforts of GCC countries to build a Statistical
Strategy and as an international organization
concentrated on the area of statistics should
support this initiative by sharing ideas and
facilitating the required activities.

OIC Statistical Capacity Building Programme (1)
 The environment of cooperation which can be provided
by OIC for the Member States in terms of training
programmes could be one of the main instruments to
improve the statistical capacities of the NSOs.
 For this reason, it is among the mandates of SESRIC as a
sub organ of OIC to organize statistical capacity building
programmes.
 The twinning programmes are very good examples of
cooperation among the countries, since these
programmes increase the synergy between the countries.

OIC Statistical Capacity Building Programme (2)
 Step 1: Collecting information from NSOs by conducting surveys
 Step 2: Determining the needs and capacities of NSOs depending
on the responses to these surveys
 Step 3: Planning training programmes by twinning countries
depending on the needs and capacities of the countries
 Step 4: Implementing training programmes by organising shortterm courses or workshops
 Step 5: Evaluating the outcomes and impacts of training
programmes in order to develop a long-term capacity building
effect

Priority Areas for the GCC Countries
 In the last quarter of 2008, the
Centre carried out the most recent
survey to update the information
about the needs and capacities of
the NSOs of the Member States.
 The responses recevied from the
GCC countries to this questionnaire
have shown that the subjects listed
at the right side are the ones to
which most of the countries have
given high priority to improve their
capacities.
 For this reason, it is reasonable for
the Centre to organize capacity
building programmes on these
subjects within 2010.
