(formerly GTZ)
Formerly a department of Lusaka City Council
Registered in 1989 and started operations in 1990.

In 2008 LWSC was requested by GRZ to take over operations in the whole of
Lusaka Province

Operational Areas
• Population of about 2.3 million people (now estimated above
3 million including transit population)
– About 70% of the population reside in peri urban areas
– Peri-urban areas ( about 34 compounds)
• These are high density largely unplanned settlements.
• This segment of the urban population present a challenge in the
provision of water and sanitation services.
• Licensed Water Trusts (currently 9 in number) to provide water
services to some Peri-urban areas.
• Customer Segments:
– Domestic- 81,806 connections- 92% of LWSC Customer Base
– Commercial-6, 039 connections-7% of LWSC Customer Base
– GRZ – 464 connections-1% of LWSC Customer Base

LWSC Peri-Urban Dept.
• Responsible for Provision of water Supply and
Sanitation services to the Low income
communities/Peri urban areas –
• Total Population served is about 1.6m people
Others Responsibilities are:• Infrastructure development
• Sanitation Marketing
• Establish various partnership with NGO’s to
improve services in Peri-urban areas
