Transcript Year One Welcome Meeting

Transition phase

We recognise that Key Stage 1 (Infants Year 1/2) is different from the Foundation Stage and therefore
we aim to manage the transition from Reception to Year 1 in a gradual, staged approach, which
allows the children to adapt during the first half of the Autumn Term.

As you will have seen in class, we currently provide a ‘play-based’ learning layout, similar to that of the
foundation stage.

During the afternoons, the learning is more structured, with less time for the children to choose
activities.

During the morning we teach literacy and numeracy as whole class carpet sessions.

After half term, we will gradually build up to structured lessons in the morning as well as the
afternoons.

We will still provide stimulating and exciting activities to help your children learn.

Phonics
 We teach phonics using the ‘Read, write, ink’ scheme.
This scheme teaches the children to read and write,
whilst helping them develop their language skills.
 We screen the children and group them by ability from
reception to year 2.
 We re-assess the children every half term and move
them into new groups accordingly.
