WELCOME TO OUR CLASSROOM
• Please find your child’s desk by looking at the
pictures.
• Look at what they wrote about themselves.
• The second sheet is what they wrote about
you.
• Take a few minutes to jot a note back to them
on the school bus paper .
This year we will grow as students and our bond
will become stronger!
We will build on the foundations that were
learned in second grade.
We are already off to a great start!!!
This power point will give you an overview of 3rd
grade!
Reading:
•Weekly whole group story/ vocabulary/
test/ comprehension test

• Homework: Reading log each night from
whole group reading or small group
reading

Reading:
Reading Binder• Students store notes from reading and
grammar mini-lessons and keep track of their
reading.
• Small group reading at your child’s level
• Each week a new skill will be introduced and
utilized.
Writing:
•Being A Writer
•Writer’s Workshop
•Writer’s Notebook
Science & Social Studies:
• Alternate mid-marking period.
• Social Studies Communities. Citizens & Giovernment
Map Skills
• Science
Various mini units: Space , Earth ,Life Science
Math
Wonders My Math program
• Introduce daily skill
• Practice daily skill
• Homework with daily skill
• IXL at home
Spelling
• Each week will be a different skill
• Weekly Spelling List and test
• Different list if all words spelled correctly on
pretest
• Weekly homework packet
• Homework that is brought back unfinished or
missing= ZERO until handed in, then ten points
off for each day it was late. *same rule applies
to classwork
• Graded Homework:
* all complete 100
* Half done 50
* one or two problems missing 75
• Email/write a note if it cannot be completed due
to extenuating circumstances.
This applies to all major subject areas (Spelling, Reading, Math,
Writing, S.S., Science)

Powerschool-Grades are updated quickly. Please
check and email me with concerns you may have.
Formative Assessments
(homework, participation, classwork): 20%
Interim Assessments
(quizzes, small projects, minor writing assignments): 35%
Summative Assessments
(tests, large projects, major writing assignments): 45%
• Green, yellow, red system
• Parent contact for repeated offenses/red
lights.
Rewards:
Tickets: pick 3- 5 tickets at the end of every
week for prizes
Bingo board : pick a card for a prize. Sit at
teachers desk, desk bump etc….
