Transcript Welcome to Gallego Basic Elementary School Mrs. Colwell’s
Students will work in groups, with partners, and independently.
When working with a partner or group each child is expected to help. One student should not rely on another to do all the work. Students working together do need to work together and not independently. It is important to learn to work together and get along.
Students will practice work as a class and with others, but then they need to be able to show what they know on their own. More independence is expected in third grade.
Emphasis changes from learning to read to reading to learn.
Students need to be able to read and find information in a reading passage.
New state standards require the student to be able to prove and explain what they know.
Simply knowing the answer is not enough. Students have to be able to: explain their thinking when finding the answer show their work find the answer and a text and highlight it or write the page and paragraph number where they found it.
All third grade students are required to pass the state mandated reading test in order to go the fourth grade.
Students that are considered at risk for failing the test will be receiving extra interventions at school both in the class, during our Walk to Read time, and for some in an after school tutoring program.
If your student qualifies for extra interventions you will be notified soon.
Students will be beginning the Conceptua online math program soon. Each lesson has practice on the skill for the lesson being taught and a skills check afterward. Students will also be doing paper and pencil practice with the skills being taught.
