•Rewards (Blizzard Bucks) are given for following the 4 “Be” rules.

Be Safe Be Here and Be Ready Be Respectful Be Responsible

•Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes inappropriate choices are made. If this should happen, consequences will be determined accordingly. They could include… *loss of a reward *time deducted from recess *a note or a phone call home *conference with student, parent, and teacher

Class Meetings

•Class Meetings occur on a weekly basis and as needed throughout the school year. Class Meetings allow for both students and the teacher to reflect upon the school week and/or events outside of the school day.

Community Time

•Following Friday Class Meetings, students have the opportunity to participate in Community Time. Students are encouraged to engage in activities with their peers, rather than play independently.

•Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

• Adopted by Illinois and 47 other states in 2010 • Goal of standards – to prepare students for college and career readiness through real world application

• Main resource – EDM • Supplemental resources identified to cover all standards • EDM checklist will be replaced with the “Profile of Progress”

• • • • Skills listed are the new Common Core State Standards.

A gray box means the skill was not directly taught in that quarter.

Students will receive a “B”-beginning, “D”-developing or “S”-secure.

Goal for all students is “S” or secure by the

end of the year.

Otter Creek Mastering Math Facts •One Minute Timings…on Tuesdays and Thursdays •Weekly practice sent home on most Mondays and Wednesdays…Your child should complete all of the problems for homework and show you the paper before returning it to school.

•Addition and Subtraction will be our focus for 2 nd grade.

•Weekly Spelling Tests •Pretest AND Posttest on THURSDAYS •The Pretest will come home in your child’s Friday Folder. You will notice either a

section of the spelling list, plus the Commonly Misspelled Words and Challenge Words. The

How do I address ALL students’ needs?

Sink and Float In October, a 2 nd Grade Fees letter will come home to explain the payment for field trips. The fee will be greatly discounted due to PTA contributions.
