Pioneering sustainability metrics for food
Bluehorse Associates is a pioneer in the field of sustainability metrics. Our mission is to
bridge the gap between environmental science and business sustainability objectives
by building web-based environmental measurement tools that are practical to use and
affordable to implement. We ensure that the data, functions and results delivered by
our tools guide businesses as they make strategic decisions to reach their sustainability
and profitability goals.
At Bluehorse, we believe passionately that a successful environmental policy cannot be
developed without considering the financial and social interests of the business.
Bluehorse democratizes LCA with Carbonostics
Bluehorse brought lifecycle assessment (LCA) and metrics to the forefront of the
environmentally impactful food and beverage industry when it launched Carbonostics
(cost + carbon + nutrition), the first pragmatic and accessible lifecycle assessment tool
built specifically for food products and menus.
Carbonostics is an innovative product-level lifecycle assessment and screening tool
that measures the impacts of any food product or menu along three key criteria:
cost + carbon + nutrition. Carbonostics delivers a practical approach to product-level
LCA allowing users to screen products for hotspots, model product development with
scenarios or process a full lifecycle analysis. The tool includes the most robust
database available today with nearly 2000 cradle-to-grave carbon emission factors for
food ingredients, processes, storage, transport and end-of-life phases.
Expanding our Reach
Bluehorse was founded in 2007 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, outside of Paris, France. The
company has since expanded its reach to other markets and now has a corporate office
in Chicago, Illinois (US) and field offices in Canada, the UK and Belgium.
Bluehorse president Sara Pax has quickly become a thought-leader in the sustainability
field thanks to her unique vision on the future of our businesses and economies. She is
often invited to lead panel discussions at conferences and is a monthly sustainability
columnist for Environmental Leader.
The teams at Bluehorse are comprised of sustainability and environmental experts
from diverse industries, such as food and beverage, agriculture, engineering, water
management, fair trade and consumer products.
