• YOUR MESSAGES CAN BE FORWARDED • VIRUSES • SPAM “JUNK” EMAIL • LESS FORMAL
Email Address • The address used to send and receive email. • example: [email protected]
Basic Email Commands • Compose —New Message • Send “Mails” the message • Reply —Sends message back • Beware: Reply All • Forward —Sends the message on to other users • Attachment —file or document hooked to an email
More terms: • Carbon Copy –send a copy to a third party • Blind Carbon Copy —send a copy to third party without receiver knowing • Deleting —moving the email to another folder. THEN DUMP TRASH
Parts of an Email Message • TO • FROM –automatic • DATE AND TIME –automatic • SUBJECT –required • BODY • Address the person at the top
Netiquette • Rules for polite internet and email use • • Don’t use all caps (shouting) Don’t ramble • Use business language • • Spell correctly Don’t use net slang (LOL, OMG, BTW)
Attachment • An electronic document, picture, video or audio clip, or any other type of file, sent with an e-mail
Freeware • Software that is available for free, usually over the Internet.
Shareware • Copyrighted software that is available free of charge on a trial basis, usually with the condition that users pay a fee for
Domain • A group of networked computers that share a common communications address.
Boolean Operator • A logic operator that is one of the operators AND, OR, or NOT, or can be expressed as a combination of these three
Trolling • Surfing, or browsing, the Web
Public Domain • The status of publications, products, and processes that are not protected under patent or copyright.
Multitasking • A method where multiple tasks (processes) share common processing resources
Encryption • The process of transforming information to make it unreadable to anyone except those possessing special knowledge
Emoticon • A facial expression pictorially represented by punctuation and letters
Spam • The use of e-mail to send unsolicited bulk messages
Base 2 Binary Code • Represents numeric values using 0 and 1
