(No egos on this team  Ok, perhaps a little.)
Topics
• Multiple approaches to get custom info
into your db.
– DCM ConfigItems
– Inventory
– SCUP (not covering that here)
• Determining the right fit
Determining the right fit
• Is it a yes/no answer?
• How long do you need the information?
• Do you need the information from just 50%
of your clients? Or all of them? (this is less
important in cm12, but may be relevant in
cm07)
1 Company CM12 Must Haves
• The inventory and DCM rules we know we
can’t live without in CM12
– Cm_localgroupmembers (DCM & hinv edit)
– Got SCUP Cert? (App Deployment)
– Hinv: A Regkey we’ve communicated to all
that if you want to set a MW, populate a
regkey locally with a value, and base a thiscollection-is-only-for-MW collection query on
it.
– ComputerSystemProduct
– DotNetFrameworks

• ProcessorAddtl
• Server Feature (Servers only)
Example: Got SCUP Cert
Decision (CM07)
• In order to successfully deploy SCUPdates to
clients, all clients targeted with SCUPdates
(Adobe Flashplayer, for example) need to have
a cert. For internal political reasons, we had to
use a self-signed cert.
• The DCM rule looks for 2 very specific registry
keys which indicate that the self-signed cert is
imported. If those keys exist, then compliant.
• If those keys do not, then non-compliant… and
fall into a collection, and that collection deserves
getting the cert deployed via “normal” Soft Dist.
