– Sign up for Connect via http://aka.ms/MDTBeta if you haven’t
already
– Download the beta and install it in your lab
– Provide feedback through the Connect website
• Be ready to implement once ConfigMgr 2012 is generally
available
– H1 calendar year 2012
– MDT 2012 will release at the same time as ConfigMgr 2012
Inside a Task Sequence:
What’s Not New
• Few changes in the task sequence engine
– The mechanics and behaviors are the same, regardless of
product
• ConfigMgr 2007, ConfigMgr 2012, MDT Lite Touch)
– Just some minor bug fixes and higher-level changes (e.g. new
actions)
• So this session is more about the way the engine works
– How each step is started
– How configuration details are passed to each step
– What actually does the work
Inside a Task Sequence:
Stepping Through the Process
• TSManager manages the process:
– Choose the next enabled step whose conditions are satisfied
– Set local task sequence variables defined for the step (but only if
global variables aren’t set)
– Execute the command line for the step
– Evaluate the results (return code, continue on error settings)
– Repeat
• So let’s walk through a running task sequence, step-bystep
– A typical MDT-created ConfigMgr task sequence, with a few
tweaks so that we can interrupt the process…
Q&A
• Become a fan of MDT
– http://www.facebook.com/MicrosoftDeploymentToolkit
• Contact Microsoft Support
– Have all logs ready, they’ll ask for them
• Use the “MDT” and ConfigMgr OSD forums on TechNet:
