 To develop your communicative skills

Why English is the global language?
As we know at the beginning of the century many
countries all over the world were ruled by Britain. All of
them were included into the British Empire and were its
colonies. Its influence made people learn and speak
English.
And while it's not the easiest language to learn, it is one of
the most useful in the world.
1. We work with the map (remember the capitals of
the countries, their place on the map)
2. The Presentations. (Listening to the leaders)
3. You should answer the teacher’s questions.
4. The groups ask each other questions.
5. The participants tell about the climate in their
country .
6. A 1 min . break.
7. Your quiz.
8. We’ll know the winner of our conference (group).
And all pupils get marks.
The United Kingdom of Great
Britain and northern ireland
The British Isles are separated from the continent by the
North Sea and the English Channel.
The flag of the United Kingdom is known as the Union
Jack.
England is the largest part of the
UK.
Its regions are the Southeast, the
Southwest, East Anglia, the
Midland and the North of England.

The capital of the UK is London.
London is one of the largest cities in
the world and the largest city
in Europe.
The UK is a
constitutional
monarchy. The Head
of State is the Queen.
This is my favourite place .
Trafalgar Square is a square
in central London.
It is a tourist attraction.
The United States of America
The United States of America is the fourth largest
country in the world (after Russia, Canada and
China).
In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered
America.
He thought that he found a new way to Asia.
The United States of America is a federal
constitutional republic and consist of 50 states and
a federal district
The USA is washed by the Pacific and
Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada
to the north and Mexico to the south.
The population of the country is about
250 million.
The Capital of the United States of America is
Washington.
English is the national language.
The largest cities are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago,
Philadelphia, Detroit and San Francisco.
Canada has a parliamentary government with strong
democratic traditions. Parliament is made up of the
Crown, an elected House of Commons.
The capital of the
country is Ottawa.
But the largest city is Toronto.
This city is home to over 5
million people. Toronto is the
third largest English-speaking
city after London and New
York.
Canada is over 40 times bigger than
the UK. There are two official
languages in Canada: English and
French.
The Great Lakes are a chain of
freshwater lakes located in eastern
North America.
The Niagara Falls are
waterfalls on the Niagara River.
Australia
The east coast of Australia was discovered
by Captain Cook in 1770.
The capital of Australia is Canberra.
There are 5 big cities in Australia:
Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth
and Brisbane.
t is the world’s largest island and its
smallest continent. Much of the
land is a useless desert. Great deserts
cover nearly 2 000 000 square km.

Australia has been called “the land of
differences” and “the continent of contrasts”.
The tropical forests are displaced by savanna or
grassland. There are many ways in which it is
different from other countries. The first thing most
people think of are the strange native animals.
There are many wild animals
in Australia. Some of them,
such as dingos, kangaroos,
koalas.
New Year is in the middle of summer, the
middle of winter is in June, and the winter
months are never cold.
Hot winds blow from the north, cold winds
blow from the south.
