map or a globe.
• A globe is a threedimensional scale
model of Earth.
• The word "globe" comes
from the Latin word
globus, meaning round
mass or sphere.
A map is…
• a drawing or other representation, usually
on a flat surface, of all or part of the
earth's surface, ordinarily showing
countries, bodies of water, cities,
mountains, etc.
What is a continent?
• A continent is one of several large
landmasses on Earth.
What are landmasses?
Large
areas of land.
What is a land mass?
• Land mass refers to the
total area of a country or
geographical region (which
may include discontinuous
pieces of land such as
islands).

There are seven continents –
they are (from largest in size to smallest):
Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and
Australia
