History

Originally called Decoration Day Borne out of the Civil War to “decorate” soldiers graves First official celebration was May 30, 1868 National Holiday Act of 1971 ensured a 3 day weekend Federal holiday Modern Day Observance: A day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the USA
