Building the “chemical slice”
• Purpose of the revised CHIETA Occupational
Dictionary is to ensure that we have detailed,
accurate and relevant occupational profiles to inform
skills planning (SSP) and reporting, skills
interventions, qualification development and career
information
• Focus on core and key support occupations and map
against qualifications
• Comments received from our stakeholders as part of
the skills planning processes engaged with last year
(RSFs, subsector skills workshops and Chambers) ,
and the detailed analysis work on WSP-ATR
occupational mapping have been considered

• CHIETA’s career material is informed by the
CHIETA Occupational Dictionary (profiling of core
chemical occupations)

all including school leavers, the unemployed and
workers in employment

Joining metal parts by hand soldering.

Welding metal parts using gas flame, or an electric
arc, thermite compound or other methods.

Brazing metal parts together.
Detecting faulty operation of equipment or
defective materials and notifying supervisors.
Providing mentoring support to Artisan learners. •
Recognizing, setting up, and operating hand and
power tools common to the welding trade, such as •
shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding
•
equipment.
Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending,
grinding or bolting component parts to obtain
required configurations and positions for welding.

Monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding
processes to avoid overheating of parts or
warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of
material.
Using blowtorch to make and repair lead linings, •
pipes, floors and other lead fixtures.
Examining work pieces for defects and measuring
work pieces with straight edges or templates to
ensure conformance with specifications.
Operating all tools, equipment and machinery
within health and safety regulations and
principles.
Cutting metal pieces using gas flame or an electric
arc.
Welding components in flat, vertical, or overhead
positions (all position welding).
Using protective clothing and equipment in
accordance with relevant occupational health and
safety requirements to minimize health and safety
risks in the workplace.
Laying out, positioning, aligning, and securing
parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using
straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and
rulers.
Operating resistance-welding machines.

Supply-side database
The purpose to provide a platform for the
matching of supply and demand information in
order to support companies access to learners
looking for opportunities in line with company
requirements and by so doing increase learners
access to opportunities.
From a CHIETA’s perspective the database
should enable the tracking and tracing of those
learners who have been placed by the company.

source WIL learners/graduates from CHIETA
