HR Issues
BAAF Meeting
February 29, 2012
BOR Ethics “Refresher” training
• We have contact persons in all UGA units who
keep track of who has completed the training
• Deadline is today
• Last year, BOR asked for names of individuals
who did not complete the training
• Also the UGA NDAH agreement
• Overall University participation as of 2/27: 73%
Grant-related reduction in force
(RIF) process
• In all cases in which an employee will be
separated due to loss of grant funding, HR
should be contacted prior to the separation
– Ideally, a minimum of 2 months prior to
separation
• Senior VPs must approve all grant-related RIFs
Shared leave program
• Shared leave program was created as a pilot in
2004, designed to help employees who
experience catastrophic illnesses and injuries
• Program has been adjusted over the years to
meet the needs of the institution as well as
the employee
• Some programs are more lenient than ours
and others are more restrictive
Accrued leave
• Recent national headlines refer to state
employees’ leave balances as liabilities
• At issue are rollover vacation leave amounts,
plus payout upon separation
• At this time, we are not aware of any direct
discussions at the Georgia state level
Health insurance benefits
• BOR changed the benefits-eligibility rules
effective January 1, 2012
– Full benefits eligibility: 75% time
– Partial benefits eligibility: 50%-74.9% time
– Non-benefits eligible: less than 50% time
• Regular, line-item budgeted positions (25%
time or greater) can be combined to achieve
benefits eligibility
Employee discounts
• A link to employee discounts can be found on
the HR home page.
• Companies pay vendor Beneplace to be added
to the UGA Extras pages. UGA does not
receive compensation from these companies.
• Beneplace manages the discount site for UGA.
