BASKETBALL REFEREES PRE-GAME CONFERENCE

Introduction

 The purpose of a good pre-game conference is to understand how officials can help each other  A good pre-game with your partners will reduce the risk of mishaps on the court  Crew Chief should run the pre-game  Use Game Board when needed

General concepts (1)

 Importance of the game  New rules and interpretations if any  Eye contact – on every dead ball situation – as much as possible  Substitutions

 Violations  Hand checking  Off-ball coverage  Rough post-play  Fights (expect unexpected)

 Court coverage – areas of responsibility (work your primary but be aware what else is happening on the court) – – – – – – rotations press and transition fast breaks rebounding goaltending and basket interference 3pts shot

 Fouls – switches – – – – – – double/triple calls TF, UF, DF and multiple fouls free throws freeze while your partner reports to the table avoid long distance calls if the number of fouls is lop-sided, be ready to answer if you are asked about by a coach or player
