Specifically, this study seeks to answer two major
questions:
1) What is the status of CTE in California and what
are the major trends?
2) What resources and system improvements are
essential at the state and local levels to ensure that
CTE meets the current and evolving needs of
students, communities, and the economy?

Declining enrollment- suggesting that the programs are not
providing meaningful exposure to the full range of
postsecondary education and career options
Although decreasing enrollment these programs are highly
valued due their ability to engage students and promote
academic success.
Counselors are supportive of the program but there is
sometimes reluctance to refer students because it might
compromise their A-G Requirements
Lack of staff planning time
The need to shift to a demand driven program rather than “seat
time”
Findings Continued
1- Create stronger ties with academic instruction with
counseling and guidance functions.
2- Ensure meaningful input from industry on skills
needed in the workplace, standards, and curriculum
as well as direct mentoring of students and
educators.
3- Promote stronger linkages among public institutions
to ensure system coherence and flexibility
4- Demonstrate how CTE promotes student success;
align data collection and reporting systems to track
system performance; make the benefits of CTE more
visible.
