EARLY FIELD EXPERIENCES GUIDELINES
2012/2013
Presentation Prepared for Courses Requiring Field Experiences

Important Note
All placements are made through the
Office of Field and Clinical Experiences
(OFCE).
 OFCE works with course instructors to
ensure that candidates are placed at
appropriate sites and in appropriate
classrooms.
 Candidates are not permitted to seek their
own placements.

Expectations for Early Field Experiences

Attendance:
 Contact school/teacher as soon as placement
is confirmed and arrange to begin.
 At first visit, set a fixed schedule of
attendance with cooperating teacher.
 Be punctual and attend regularly until
completion of field experience requirements.
 Be mindful of established deadlines.

Professionalism:
 Attire: Dress appropriately in a manner that distinguishes
you as a professional (no cleavage, daisy dukes, pencil
straps, tank tops, short outfits, jeans, flip-flops. Also be
mindful of host school’s dress code)
 Language: Use standard written and spoken English;
speak clearly
 Attitude: Demonstrate respect for others and their beliefs;
accept constructive criticism; demonstrate understanding
of multiple perspectives of teaching and learning; turn off
cell phones and stay engaged and active; volunteer your
assistance; be ethical

eligible sites (i.e., classrooms or schools) where
field experiences may be completed.

guidelines)

All candidates requesting placement must
complete, sign, and submit this form to OFCE in
AC 217
Submission Deadlines:

Fri., Sept. 7, 2012 (Fall 2012 placements)
* Fri., Feb. 1, 2013 (Spring 2013 placements)

Confirmation Form (if applicable)
If employed in a classroom or school
approved by your course instructor for field
experience completion, a fully completed
and signed Employment and Placement
Confirmation form must be submitted with
your Early Field Experience Request form
for your request to be honored.
Proof of Current Professional
Liability Insurance coverage
All candidates are required to provide proof of current
professional liability insurance (NOT collision) coverage.
Following are examples of avenues for obtaining professional
liability coverage:

Note: Email copy to [email protected] by applicable deadline.
Background Check
Follow background check process for host school or
district, e.g., Winston Salem/Forsyth County requires
completion of volunteer background check through the
district’s website. This information will be
communicated to you along with your placement
confirmation via email.
Note:
You will need the exact name of your host school in
order to be able to complete the volunteer background
check process.

Once all applications are submitted to OFCE, requests
will be compiled and sent to schools
As soon as placements are confirmed, candidates will
be notified of their host schools/teachers via email.
Candidates are expected to contact the school
immediately and arrange to begin school visits.
Candidates are also expected to get Early Field
Experience Packets from OFCE containing the log
sheet and evaluation form before beginning school
visits.
