Welcome to the 6th
Grade!
 This is an important year for
you!
 I will give you an introduction
to school rules, regulations,
and information for you to be
successful this school year.
 If you have any questions
during my presentation,
please raise your hand and
wait to be called on.
All About Me
 My Background
 I grew up in Compton.
 I attended Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow Elementary, Walton
Junior High, Compton High, and
Kansas State University.
 My Experience
 I’ve been teaching for 16 years.
 I have taught 6th grade Math,
Science, and Health at this school
since 1994.
 I was in the Army for 30 years!!!

Goals
 To give you the academic tools you
need to complete the 6th grade.
 To provide a supportive learning
environment.
 To have fun while we learn.
 To make new friends and discover new
interests as we learn and grow.
Class Content
 We will cover 6th grade Math, Science
and Health
 You will get the Common Core
Workbooks for Math, Science/Health.
 We will be working in Kagan
Cooperative Teams of four students.
 Some clerical supplies will be available.
Arriving and Leaving School
Grounds
 Buildings will be
open at 7:30 AM.
 Buildings will be
closing at 3:30 P.M.
 You must stay on
campus during 7:30
to 3:05 each day.
 Classes start at 8:00
AM. Be on time!
Math
 We will cover basic 6th
grade math.
 You will learn about the
number system,
expressions and
equations, statistics &
probability, and
geometry.
 Make sure to bring
plenty of paper and a
sharpened pencil.
Science and Health
 We will explore the Earth
structures and visit the
school science laboratory.
 You will learn how to
maintain good health and
how to stay away from
harmful drugs.
 We will make a lot of
projects in these classes
and perform plays.
Attendance
 You must attend
classes from 13 August
2013 to 13 Jan 2014 for
your 1st Semester
attendance and
grades..
 Bring a note to teacher
if you are absent.
 No school on 30 Aug,
2 Sept, 5 Sept
Tardiness
 Tardiness disrupts
the class.
 Be on time every
day.
 Your grade made
be lowered for
absences and
tardiness.
Visitors
 Students can not bring
any visitors to school.
 Visitor permits are only
for your parents.
 No outside friends,
family, or animals are
allowed in classrooms.
Bicycles
 Bicycles are to be locked in the bicycle
racks only.
 Skateboards should be checked in to
the main school office before school
starts.
 Bicycles and skateboards are not to be
ridden on campus.
Meal Service
 Students will get Breakfast in the Classroom (BLC)
during 1st period each day.
 Your teacher will assign food monitors to bring food
to your classroom.
 If you take the breakfast, you must take all the items.
 Make sure to throw all trash and garbage in the trash
bag.
 You can not keep any food to eat later on.
 Make sure you keep your class clean every day.
 You will have a regular lunch break each day.
Student Store
 The student store is located to the right side
of the cafeteria area.
 You can buy all your school supplies there.
Make sure you have enough money.
 You can also buy uniforms by the school
front door by the main parking lot. There is
no regular time they are there, but they set a
table out during the first 2 weeks of school.
Clean Campus




Each student must keep our campus clean.
Please clean your area after you finish eating.
Put all litter in the trash cans.
Make sure you keep your classroom clean and
straighten the chairs and desks.
 Toilet are available through out the school. Make
sure you use the closest facility to your classroom.
You must have a hall pass and wear an orange vest
with your room number on it.
Dress Code
 We follow the LAUSD dress code.
 Use common sense and dress for success.
 No hats, beanies, baggy pants, or revealing
clothing.
 Shirts must have sleeves and shorts may not
be shorter than two inches above the knee.
Electronic Devices
 Students may not have iPODs, MP3,
games, etc…out during school hours.
 All cell phones must be turned off and
out of sight.
 Be respectful and safeguard school
computers and technology.
Your Grades
 Students will be receiving grades of A,
B, C, D, and F.
 Cooperation and work habits marks will
be also assessed. (e.g. AEE, FUU)
 E – excellent
 S – satisfactory
 U - unsatisfactory

F – as in Foxtrot

 A – 0 to 2 wrong
 B – 3 to 4 wrong
 C – 5 to 6 wrong

Class Rules
 Be Prompt
 Be Polite
 Be Productive
 Be Prepared
Team Jobs – 5 weeks
 Coach – helps students do the work and is the
student in charge of the entire team. Must know
all the team member’s names and tells teacher
who is absent, tardy. Regulates the toilet breaks.
Writes down students who break class rules.
 Recorder – writes for the team and is the
spokesperson for the team.
 Quiet Captain – quiets group by using hand
signals. Gives positive feedback to other
members on the team.
 Material Manager – gets all the books, paper, art
tools, and pencils for the group as needed.
