LEADERSHIP
PARADIGM CHANGE
Marilyn Forsythe, BPWA President
WE ARE ALWAYS SEEING THE WORLD
THROUGH OUR PARADIGMS,
THROUGH THE RULES AND
REGULATIONS THAT WE HOLD.
WHAT IS A PARADIGM?
Etiquette
A set of rules that has been
established by convention
PARADIGM SHIFTS
ALL LEADERS MUST DEAL WITH CHANGE
Helping people overcome their limitations
to become more successful at work
is at the very heart of effective
management.
SIX ROLES OF A LEADER DURING CHANGE
The Sponsor
The Role Model
The Decision Maker
The Voice
The Motivator
The Enforcer

HOW TO THINK INNOVATIVELY
Customers call and leave messages and must
be returned in 10 mins
How does that affect the department?
Is there a better way?
WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO
DO BUT IF IT COULD BE DONE, WHAT
WOULD FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE
YOUR BUSINESS?
.
“The real voyage of discovery
consists not in seeking new lands
but in seeing with new eyes.”
Proust
DEALING WITH CHANGE
Make sure you have a clear understanding of your
own paradigms
Ask yourself “Who in another field would be
interested in my unsolved problems?” GO AND TALK
TO THEM
When a change is suggested work through the
positive and negative aspects of the change
Seek outside your own paradigm shifts by thinking
outside the circle
WHY ARE NEW IDEAS REJECTED?
We just don’t have the time for that!
We have always done it that way.
Do we really need it?
I am quite sure it wouldn't work.
It is much too risky!
It will never work in practice.
