LABORATORIO INTERNAZIONALE DI ARCHITETTURA E PAESAGGIO
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP OF LANDSCAPE AND ARCHITECTURE
Iglesias Monteponi, 28 February / 4 March 2017
MINING LANDSCAPES
Projects for Monteponi
The international workshop of landscape and architecture investigates the problem of the mining landscape transformations
induced from the current environmental conditions and the necessity to anticipate a new cultural and development perspective.
It is a matter which requires a design vision able to strictly connect architecture, engineering, infrastructure, techniques, local
contexts and socio-economic models, in order to explore solutions and new scenarios illustrating the deep transformations of
this landscape.
The redevelopment, regeneration and environmental rehabilitation of mining and abandoned industrial sites represent, in this
sense, an important and urgent challenge, an opportunity to define a broader perspective of development which could also
stimulate the scientific research related to environmental recovery and landscape architecture techniques and aimed to
generate on the territory skills and structures operating in Mediterranean and European level.
Design themes
The project themes will focus on the environmental rehabilitation of abandoned mining areas of Monteponi and the recovery
and reuse of large containers of mining archaeology, on the relations between the mining sites and the coast in a perspective of
strengthening and developing the tourism and environmental values of the area.
Activities/Program
The workshop is organized in design groups followed by one or more professors and tutors. These ateliers are the occasions to
develop the knowledge of the context and the themes of the project, deepening the aspects both theoretical and technical.
Visiting Critics will discuss the work of the ateliers which will be concluded with an exhibition of the projects and the
communication of the results to the public.
During the workshop the ateliers will be supported by seminars and lectures.
The workshop activities will take place at the AUSI complex in Iglesias.
Official workshop languages: Italian and English.
