body. You rose on the third day, O Lord and Savior, granting life unto the world. And therefore the powers of
heaven cried to You, O Giver of-Life: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ; glory to Your kingdom; glory to Your
dispensation, only One who loves mankind.

Let the heavens sing for joy, and let everything on earth be glad. For with His Arm the Lord has worked power.

In essence being God, most compassionate Master, You assumed human nature without transmutation.
Fulfilling the Law, of Your own will You accepted circumcision in the flesh, to bring an end to the shadow, and to
remove the passions that cover us. Glory to Your benevolence, O Lord; glory to Your compassion; glory to Your
inexpressible condescension, O Word.

Your proclamation went forth into all the earth, for it accepted your word, through
which you taught the dogmas befitting God, you expounded on the nature of all that
is, and you arranged the morals of society. A royal priesthood! Devout father Basil, intercede with Christ our God,
to grant us His great mercy.

Today marks the crowning of our salvation and the revelation of the mystery before all ages. For the Son of God
becomes the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel proclaims the grace. Wherefore, we also cry out with him, "Hail, O full
of grace, the Lord is with you."

Ὁ τῶν ὅλων Κύριος, περιτοµὴν ὑποµένει, καὶ βροτῶν τὰ πταίσµατα, ὡς
ἀγαθὸς περιτέµνει δίδωσι τὴν σωτηρίαν σήµερον κόσµῳ χαίρει δὲ ἐν τοῖς ὑψίστοις
καὶ ὁ του Κτίστου, Ἱεράρχης καὶ φωσφόρος, ὁ θεῖος µύστης Χριστοῦ Βασίλειος.
As the Master over all has undergone circumcision, so He cuts away the sins of humankind in His goodness.
On this day, upon the world He bestows salvation. Andon high does the Creator's hierarch Basil now rejoice, for
he is known as a most divineand light-bearing mystic of Christ.
SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE DIVINE LITURGY
EPISTLE READING (Colossians 2: 8 – 12)
Brethren, see to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human
tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole
fulness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fulness of life in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.
In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the
circumcision of Christ; and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through
faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
GOSPEL READING (Luke 2: 20 – 21, 40 – 52)
At that time, the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it
had been told them. And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given
by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and
the favor of God was upon him. Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And
when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were
returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, but supposing him to be in the
company they went a day’s journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; and when they
did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. After three days, they found him in the temple, sitting
among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his
understanding and his answers. And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son,
why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." And he said to them,
"How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?" And they did not
understand the saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was
obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature,
and in favor with God and man.

In you, O Lady full of grace, rejoices all creation, the orders of Angels and the human race together. O hallowed
temple and rational Garden of Paradise, the pride of virgins,from you did God become incarnate, and our God who
existed before the ages became a child. For He made your womb a throne for himself, and your body He made
wider than the heavens. In you, O Lady full of grace, rejoices all creation. Glory to you.

A plea to all those who generously prepare Prosforon! During the fall and winter months, our supply tends to
deplete more rapidly than at other times of the year. We ask those who are able to please prepare and bring
Prosforon on Sunday, or bring them to the church during the week, Mon. – Fri. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Thank you for

FINALLY WE CAN REALIZE THE UPDATING OF OUR ATHENAGORAS ROOM!
Please have patience for any inconvenience during our January construction time. The final renovation will be
worth it.
The exciting part of this project is the support we have received from all the members of GAPA and the Parish for
this little organization to take on the project of remodeling this room that is highly used room in our Center.
All the members of GAPA have participated in various projects with many diverse skills, stay focused and
motivated to meet our goal. It has been years of the Spanakopeta Project, “A Festival of Recipes” cookbook and
the Bake/Craft Sale that has made this goal a reality. We fondly remember those members who have passed away
that worked so hard for this project.
We thank the community, organizations and individuals, for your awesome support! Also, we thank our parish staff
who throughout the years have played a huge role in the success of each project .
It is heartwarming to say the least, and fills us with pride to be a part of our Church community. Together, we
made a wish a reality. Thank you!
We thank God for our many blessings
and humbly pray that He bless all of us and give us many years
to enjoy the fruits of our labors for our beloved Church.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
EPIPHANY – HOUSE BLESSINGS – JANUARY 2017
The Season of Epiphany is highlighted by the service of the blessing of the waters, and the visitation and
sprinkling of the blessed waters in our homes by our priest and spiritual father. In continuing this beautiful
Orthodox Tradition, forms with days and times that Father Joseph will be in your area to bless homes are located
in the Community Center Lobby and in the Narthex. Please return your form to the church office no later than

Wednesday, January 4 . Forms may be returned to the Parish Mailbox across from the office in Fr. Joseph’s
mailbox. You should be available for the time period selected. Due to the number of blessings, specific time
requests may not be possible. Those who can be home during the day, please schedule morning hours.
If you are unable to be home for Father’s visit because of a scheduling conflict or illness, please call the
church office.
Lastly, per His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas’ request a male parishioner or parish council member
should be present with Fr. Joseph at house blessings.
HVAC - REPLACEMENT PROJECT
On December 4, 2016, a Special General Assembly meeting was held to review and approve replacement
of the HVAC system for the Church. The project was unanimously approved. Construction will begin on or about
December 26, 2016 with completion by March 31, 2017. Phase 1 will be the majority of the exterior construction,
including demolition of the concrete sidewalks surrounding the church. Access to the main entrance of the church
and the handicapped entrance will not be affected, however, construction barriers will be in place. Please exercise
caution and do not remove any barricades. We will keep you informed as the project moves forward.
JOY COURTYARD AND MEMORIAL GARDEN
The Joy Courtyard and Memorial Garden project is underway. Bricks and pavers are available. Please pick
up a form, or see Deb Pulos to become a part of this special project. Anticipated ground breaking is early spring.
Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in the first phase of the brick and paver installation.

WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS!
If you are visiting our Parish, please fill out the "Visitor Information Card," located in the Narthex, and hand it to
one of the Welcome Committee greeters. You are welcome to come forward to receive a piece of “antidoron”
(blessed bread) at the conclusion of the service and join us in the Memorial Center for our Fellowship Hour
following the Divine Liturgy.
If you are a “newcomer” to our Parish, please introduce yourself to our priest. He would be most happy to
schedule a time to meet with you and discuss the ministries and fellowship opportunities available within our
Parish.
GUIDELINES FOR RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
For Orthodox Christians
When preparing to receive Holy Communion, please remain quietly in your pews until an Usher/ Parish Council
Member directs you to approach from the center aisle. Your prayerful attention helps sustain the solemnity of the
Divine Liturgy for those praying the "Prayers of Preparation” and following Holy Communion the "Prayers of
Thanksgiving.” You will find these prayers in the burgundy Divine Liturgy book located in the pew backs. The
“Prayers of Preparation” begin on page 29 and the “Prayers of Thanksgiving” begin on page 40.
Please allow the acolyte to place the Holy Communion Cloth beneath your chin. This ensures that no particle of the
Eucharist falls from your lips. Recite your baptismal name aloud; open your mouth wide; and close your mouth as
the Communion Spoon enters your mouth. After receiving Holy Communion, blot your lips on the cloth and return
to your pew by the side aisles.
You will find an acolyte offering you a bowl of antidoron from which you should take a single piece to ensure you
consume all traces of Holy Communion.
For Non-Orthodox Christians
We welcome to our worship those Christians not fully united with us (canonically).
It is a consequence of the sad divisions of Christianity that we cannot extend a general invitation to receive Holy
Communion. Orthodox Christians believe that the Eucharist is an action of the celebrating community signifying a
oneness in faith, life, and worship. Reception of the Eucharist by Christians not fully united with us would imply a
oneness which does not yet exist and for which we must all pray.
