Summary
• This guide is designed to help you reduce waste and conserve
energy simply by altering your printing habits. The guide will
show you how to:
• Find the nearest printer that will print double sided
• Default all printing to that printer
• Alter the print settings to print double sided
• Utilise other features to cut down on printing

Finding the Right Printer
• From your start menu click on ‘Printers and Faxes’
Click on ‘Add a
Printer’ in the top left
of the window
Follow the
instructions in the
Add Printer Wizard.
Select to set up a
network printer and
click next.

Select ‘Find a printer in the
directory and the
following box will appear.
Click on the Features tab
Select the feature ‘Can print
double-sided’ and go back to
the Printers tab

If you know where your
nearest printer is type in the
location and click on ‘find now’
to narrow your search.
If you know the make and
model of the printer you need
enter this to narrow your
search
Select the right printer for you
and click on OK

Set this printer as your
default printer so you will
always have the option
to print double sided
Click on Next and then on
Finish to complete your
printer set-up

Changing your print settings
Click on the Start menu and then on ‘Printers and Faxes’
To set your chosen
printer as the default
right click on the
icon and select ‘set
as Default Printer’
Right click on the
printer you want
to use and select
‘Properties’

Changing your print settings
When the window opens click on ‘Printing
Preferences’
Click on Ecoprint to automatically
print on both sides of the paper.
Click OK and this will become your
default setting.
N.B. Different printer makes and models will have
different preferences. Look out for ‘duplex’ or ‘doublesided’ printing options

Other waste-cutting features
If you don’t need to worry
about presentation,
printing two or more pages
per sheet can halve your
printing.
This also works when
printing PowerPoint handouts. You have options to
print 1,2,3 or 6 slides per
sheet.
