Motivation for SA-Preamble Partitioning
• AMS needs to differentiate ABS type when detecting target SAPreamble
– AMS should be able to know whether the T-ABS is public ABS (ABS
which can be accessible to the AMS) or not
– Different HO conditions are required for HO to different type ABS
• An AMS uses diffetent HO parameters for measurment RSSI if ABS type of T-ABS is
diofferent to S-ABS
• Due to the fast HO requirements to macro ABS, AMS can’t further refer to its
MAC level identifier. Instead, AMS needs to identify ABS type based on SAPreamble
• This will happen when it is impossible to include micro ABS’s information in
NBR-ADV due to large number of micro ABSs (like macro hot-zone ABS,
femto ABS, etc)
• ABS needs to identify ABS type with SA-Preamble
– SA-Preamble sequence is divided into several non-overlapped sub-sets
and each partition is dedicated to specific ABS type.
– The SA-Preamble partition should be flexible, depending on the
deployment scenario, and the partition information should be passed to
AMS without much signaling overhead
SA-Preamble Partitioning
• First, the number of preamble sequences for macro BS are fixed
– The total number of cell ID supported for macro ABS is [120(=20*2*3)]
• Only 114 cell ID in 802.16e
– The size of macro/non-macro BS sets is fixed and is known to AMS
• Hierarchical SA-Preamble partitioning
– Public/Privacy ABS partitioning
• All MS can be accessible/non-accessible
• Transmitted to AMS via S-SFH SP3
– Partitioning for each ABS type
Partition for each ABS type
• Partition information is transmitted via AAI_SCD
• Transmitted to AMS via AAI_SCD

Text Proposal
• Insert the following text in line 9 of page 288
– SA-Preamble sequences are partitioned and each partition is
dedicated to specific base station type like macrocell BS, Macro
Hotzone BS, femtocell BS and etc. The partition information is
broadcasted in the extended system information. The Within each
SA-Preamble segment, the first [40] SA-Preamble sequences are
reserved for macro-BS and the rest of [216] sequences are for
Macro Hotzone and femto BS and etc. The numbers of sequences
for each BS type except macro BS are flexible.
Every ABSs are divided into public ABSs (those are accessible for
all AMSs) and private ABSs (those are accessible only for
subscribed AMSs). The value of partition pointer divides the
preamble sequence into public and private ABSs and is controlled
by a [4]-bit pointer whose value is broadcasted via “SA-sequence
soft partitioning information” in S-SFH SP3.
