Bullying Prevention:
Empowering
Bystanders
When should you intervene as a
BYSTANDER?
• When hearing about potential school
violence
• When seeing physical violence
• When hearing name calling
• When asked to spread a rumor
• When asked to exclude someone
Bystanders can be…
• Bullies: if they do not help, then they
are part of the bullying
• Silent supporters: stand with the bully
but do not say anything
• Defenders: students willing to stand up
for the victim and tell the bully to STOP
• Potential defenders:Students who think
the bully is wrong but are afraid to do
anything
We can end Bullying…
if Bystanders
Stand Up Against Bullies!
• Bystanders can tell an adult at school and
an adult at home.
• Tell bullies to STOP!
• Bystanders can include others
• Bystanders can make friends with students
who are being bullied.
What victims want you to do…
1. Don’t make things worse by laughing.
2. Tell an adult.
3. Be a friend to victims and help them get away
from the bullying.
4. Be a friend to victims-sit with them, play with
them, and show them its not their fault.
5. If the bullying is done by a friend or a younger
student, ask the bully to stop in a peaceful way.
YOU
can put an
END
to bullying!
