GLAST LAT Project Software Meeting, January 16-19, 2001 Project Status Update Peter Michelson Principal Investigator & Spokesman GLAST LAT Software Meeting GLAST LAT Project Software Meeting, January 16-19, 2001 Short-term Project Milestones • Balloon Flight Preparations and Analysis – Flight: June 2001 – Dave Thompson (GSFC), analysis lead • Lehman “pre-baseline” Review: February 13-15, 2001 – Joint Department of Energy and NASA Review of LAT – R. Dubois will present status of software development and planning • Lehman “baseline” Review and LAT PDR: August 2001 – Must freeze and validate instrument Monte Carlo – Reoptimize reconstruction analysis – Re-evaluate performance parameters • Analysis cuts and background rejection • PSF, effective area, energy resolution, FOV, etc. • Non-Advocate Review (NAR): August 2001 – Immediately follows PDR of instrument – NASA-led Review of GLAST Mission – NAR will make “go – no go” recommendation to NASA Associate Administrator and Chief Engineer GLAST LAT Project Software Meeting, January 16-19, 2001 Issues and Actions • Background rejection and trigger analysis – Steve Ritz (Instrument Scientist) and J.J. Russell (leadrealime DAQ software scientist) are leads on this effort • Operations during Solar flares and LAT contribution to Solar flare science – Neil Johnson (Cal lead scientist and Mgr) + NRL will investigate and work with DAQ/electronics group • I&T Planning, including instrument calibration planning – A group, with representation from all subsystems, will be appointed and charged by W. Althouse, Proj. Mgr.
