Why Was SASSY Developed?
• 6 Annie’s sites in South Dakota with a desire to
continue learning and networking
• Developed a relationship with the women and
know we are truly making a difference
• Impacts and changes from Annie’s were
phenomenal and wanted it to grow
How Was SASSY Put Together?
• Developed an advanced curriculum
• Builds on principles of Annie’s
- Similar design: 6 sessions
- Built in opportunity for more sessions
• Site Coordinator
- Training
- Jump drive
- Complete Curriculum
- Lesson plans
- Power Points and additional resources
- Advertising
- Evaluations
- Allow flexibility
Curriculum
• Focuses on the following:
– Finding balance between the individual and the
agricultural operation
– Goal Setting
– Marketing
– Understanding financial documents
– Implementing record keeping
– Future planning
How Did We ….
Self- Driven & Sustainable?
Started with six sessions….. with a desire to continue
HOW?
• Guided groups through a “study circle” exercise to:
Determine interests:
- For initial 6 weeks
- Future weeks
• Ask for volunteers to help with individual topics, finding speakers, etc.
• Extension Educators help oversee process
Currently have 6 SASSY groups, 4 are continuing at this time
Family Business Workshop
• Henry Ford said “Coming together is a
beginning. Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.”
