This unit contains two short conversation: a
welcoming party and a retirement party. On these
occasions people who work together may go to a
place out side of the office to spend time together.
These situations often call for small speech.
Joseph is a newcomer. His co-workers have decided to
throw him a welcome party. They take him to their usual
hang-out after work and celebrate.
Mathew: Here we are!Java Joe’s restaurant .
Joseph: So this is where you all hang out after work .
Mathew: Welcome to the office! It’s good to have
you onboard , mate! Everyone! Let’s have a toast
for Joseph! To good time to come , cheers !
Everyone: Cheers !
They all drink.
Gary: Joseph , I’m not going to lie to you ,the
work we do here is REALLY hard ,but you’re
going to love it .
Vera: Yes, the workload is heavy and hours are long,
but it’s so rewarding when you finish a case.
Jason: Hey! People! Don’t try to scare him away!Seriously,
Joseph, we do have a lot on our hands. However, nothing
compares to the sense of accomplishment. It just feels so
good when you know you’ve done a good job.
Joseph,
Joseph : Wow, thanks everyone for having this party for me.
It really warms my heart to know that I’m working with a
group of friendly and welcoming people. I must confess that
I felt a little intimidated when I first came to the office. But
now that I get to know more about you, I’m sure we’ll have
a great time working together. Here’s to doing a good job!
Everyone: To doing a good job!
Everyone from the office is at a restaurant.
They are celebrating George’s retirement.
Jason: Congratulations George!Today is your big day!
Vera: George, you’re retired. I can’t believe it. I
can’t believe that we are going to lose you.
You’ve always been so kind to us.
Gary: Yeah, it’s going to be weird coming to
work on Monday with you not in the Office.
Mathew: Yeah, it is going to be weird not hearing
the familiar “Gary! You are late, again!”
Joseph: Thank you George for all the things
you’ve taught me. You’ve made it so easy for
me when I first came to the company. I could
have made a huge fool of myself without your
guidance.
George: Thank you everybody for coming today. It is
an honor to have worked with a group of talented
people. I have been with this company for thirty
years, now. It’s been a good thirty years, thanks to all
of you. And here’s to another thirty years! Cheers!
Everyone:Cheers!
They all sing “ For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”.
