The nature
of volunteers and voluntary groups
Stanley Parker(1997) identifies four types of
volunteer:
1. Altruistic volunteering
2. Market volunteering
3. Cause-serving volunteering
4. Leisure volunteering
Robert Stebbins (1996): serious leisure
Voluntary groups:
differences and similarities
Similarities in patterns of activity and the ways
in which clubs develop and decline.
Open to all in principle, exclusiveness with high
enrolment fees or membership systems.
Clubs are not static, but changing, organization.
