Written Summary
In fall semester of 1997, the number of students at Maclay
University who were involved in mentored research was 40. Then
for the next three years, it fell almost steadily, dropping to 30 in
1998 and 20 in 1999. Theft was a slight upsurge in 2000 to 50, then
another little drop in 2001 to 45 Then in 2002, the Office of FacultyStudent Mentoring Projects was organized and the tide seemed to
turn. In the five years from 2002 to 2007, the number of students
involved in mentored research more than doubled, as the number
grew from 100 in 2002 to 150 in 2003, 180 in 2004, 200 in 2005,
and 220 in 2006 and 240 in 2007. The numbers increased to 260 in
2008, 280 in 2009 and 300 in 2010. During the eight years of its
existence, the Office of Faculty-Student Mentoring Programs has
increased by five fold the number of undergraduate students doing
research with a mentoring professor.
