Cooperative Open Reporting Environment

CORE Initiative Goals
1. Provide immediate access to accurate information for
informing decisions and planning
2. Promote open access to data while ensuring the
security of confidential information
3. Create a single truth through standards and definitions
4. Create a culture of data stewardship in all areas of the
University, rather than data ownership
5. Encourage partnerships and tools to connect
information across campus
Why? Data is complex, distributed, hard to find,
and highly controlled, leading to:
Restricted Data Access
Emergence of Shadow Systems
Multiple Systems of Record
Multiple Versions of the Truth
Multiple Reporting Systems
Duplicated efforts
Increased Software / Maintenance Costs
New Ways of Doing Things
- Culture Shift from the Data Security Norm
• Information belongs to the University and
should be available to people to use to do
their jobs
• Data should be widely available and
managed by trust and responsibility, rather
than control
• All information at OSU should be integrated
and appropriately available, regardless of
source or system (sharing vs. ownership)
