• In architected environment, priorities have
to be set in a planned manner, again like
remodeling a home.
• Architecture Dependencies

Typically, the foundation systems end up
being systems that are called reference
systems such as systems that manage the
“product file” or “customer file”.

In almost all commercial enterprises that
have developed the business views of an
architecture, the highest priorities are the
customer and product reference systems
since so many downstream business
problems are caused by problems in these
systems.

As we’ve seen in developing our
architecture, there are even higher-level
reference systems that need to exist such
as those “master information systems” that
were not wholly owned within any
particular information system.

If you recall, we discovered one when we
were developing the business views of the
sales and marketing function and called it
the organization master information
system.

If we were to order the rest of the
information systems within the sales and
marketing function, we would again look at
dependencies.

usually crop up in the downstream
information systems.
