Almost all large companies built most of
their mission critical applications from
scratch a long time ago.

These are what are typically called “legacy
systems”.

• Larger third parties can supply an entire
information system with a central data
server and a suite of integrated application
modules.
• Medium third parties can provide the
central server and a subset of the
applications within an information system.

• Smaller third parties can supply one or two
applications within an information system
and require their own servers to be
integrated with other server in the
information system.

Option One
• Provide all functionality and data that
match the boundaries of an information
system.
• Data hubs provide the ability to replicate
information between the third party
information systems and other internal or
third party information system in the
enterprise.

Option Two
• Allow a third party to supply a single
application within an information system.
• The data hubs not only [provide the ability
to integrate with another information
system, they also provide the ability to
integrate information across applications
within an information system.

Option Three
• If the third party doesn’t met all the
application needs within the information
system and it has an open architecture for
you to add data structures to its database
and write additional clients to server, it is
pretty easy to plug into the architecture.
