FLUENCY & COMMUNICATION

a focus : on accuracy
correction : greater use of
instant correction
 A focus : on fluency
Correction: instant correction is
less appropriate,
could interfere with
the aims of the
activity
Teacher needs to be clear
about her main aim (accuracy
or fluency) and adapt her role
in class appropriately.
Basic Procedure for a
Communicative Activity :
1.
Teacher introduces and sets
up activity (teacher centrestage).
2.
Students do the activity.
Teacher takes notes of
interesting student
utterances (correct &
incorrect) for use later on.
3.
Teacher gets feedback, does
follow-on work, etc (teacher
centre-stage again).
