Huruf “Decorative/Digital”
Decorative fonts are easy to identify. Decorative fonts
are attention getters used in advertising. Each typeface
has individual and distintive characteristics.
Decorative typefaces are meant to add punch to a
publication, create a definite “look” or emphasize the
content. These fonts are distinctive, easy to use and fun.

Born 23. 4. 1957 in London, England – graphic designer, art director,
type designer.
Insignia is a 1986 typeface by British designer Neville Brody. Originally
developed as a headline face for Arena magazine, Insignia is a monoline
display typeface immediately identifiable by cross-strokes on the capitals that
cut through the main stems of the capital letters. Use Insignia for advertising
and display work. The “A” faces are similar to the regular ones, but have
alternate versions of the following characters: E, F, J, P, R, S, Z, Thorn, s, t
(and the accented versions of these characters).

P. Scott Makela, Born: St. Paul, Minnesota, 1960, Died: Detroit, Michigan,
1999, a groundbreaking graphic designer and multimedia artist, studied at
Cranbrook, where he also served as designer-in-residence.
Dead History signals the end of an era of traditionally produced fonts. It
personifies a new attitude in type creation marked by the design of hybrid
typefaces which are largely the result of the computer's capabilities to
function as the perfect assembling tool. Started by P. Scott Makela while
studying in the graduate design program at Cranbrook, the font was
originally based on Linotypes's Centennial and Adobe's V.A.G. Rounded. It
went through numerous stages of assembly and disassembly before it was
licensed to Emigre Fonts in early 1994. There it was finally redrawn from
scratch and completed by Zuzana Licko.
Dead History has been used by Makela in a variety of award winning graphic
design pieces including the Audioafterbirth CD packaging and the 1991-93
MCAD catalog, to name but a few.

Summary
Decorative & Digital letters are, by definition, display
faces & seldom, if ever, suited to the setting of any
more than a small number of words.
An informed choice of text face to accompany these
will take into account the conventions of text setting
in the period from which the display face originates, in
order to ensure compatibility
