Huruf “Serif-Old Style”
Old style is not necessarily old, but has characteristics
that classify it as "old" or of the classic form.
Old Style is a style of font developed by
Renaissance typographers to replace the Blackletter style
of type. Based on ancient Roman inscriptions, these fonts
are generally characterized by low contrast between thick
and thin strokes, bracketed serifs, and a left-leaning axis
or stress.

Born 6. 5. 1889 in Wanstead, England, died 11. 10. 1967
in London, England – typographer, type designer.
In 1931, The Times of London commissioned the Monotype Corporation, under
the direction of Stanley Morison, to design a newspaper typeface. Research into
legibility and readability led to a design that was unique in newspaper
typography; it is based on old style types, and has greater contrast and is more
condensed than previous newspaper types. Times New Roman is not the
universal typeface many printers were calling for, but a good bread-and- butter
typeface for most job.

Francesco Griffo (also Francesco da Bologna) – born 1450, died
1518 in Bologna, Italy – type founder, punch cutter, type designer.
Trained as a punch cutter and type founder in Bologna.
Bembo was cut by Francesco Griffo for the Venitian printer Aldus Manutius to
publish in 1495 De Aetna by Cardinal Pietro Bembo. Stanley Morison supervised
the design of Bembo for the Monotype Corporation in 1929. The Bembo is a
readable and classical typeface because of its well-proportioned letterforms,
functional serifs, and lack of peculiarities.

Summary
 Readability. Old style fonts are almost always very
readable.
 Subtlety and lack of contrast. The old style fonts have
heavy lines and light lines but the contrast in weight is
subtle, not stark.
