Responsibilities

• Teacher: – Teach CA Common Core Standards to all students by introducing, modeling, and giving opportunities for independent practice in all subjects.

– Providing a safe and comfortable atmosphere for learning. – Homework to be relevant. • Student: – To complete all assignment on time.

– To make correct choices in behavior in all – situations – classroom, recess, etc.

– To be a learner while at school.

- To Persevere when challenges arise.

• Parent:

– To check over nightly homework for accuracy, effort, and neatness. All homework is to be done on lined paper unless it is a worksheet.

Classroom Rules

• The school has adopted a school wide program: The 5B’s.

Consequences:

• If the students forget or break a rule, then the following will take place: 1. Verbal Warnings 2. Clip down on behavior chart 3. Loss of partial recess or removal from the group 4. Teacher/student and/or parent conference 5. Write “Think Sheet” to parents to be signed and returned next day 6. Call parent/Conference 7. Sent to the principal

Agendas are used school wide (3-5) to build responsibility and organizational skills. PTA provided the agendas for the school – thank you PTA!

Birthdays

Birthdays:

Students will be specially acknowledged month at the celebrate month for summer birthdays.

Treats:

We will be having a ‘Breakfast Brunch’ on the last Friday of each month. The room parents will coordinate with birthday parents as to what to bring to the brunch. Please do not bring sugary treats during the birthday week. The district is trying to have a climate of healthy nutrition.

Per District, third grade has fully implemented the Common Core Standards. Students will be participating in the SBAC test at the end of the year. Scores will still not be sent home to the parents. Language Arts

• Reading

There is a shift to non-fiction, 60% non fiction and 40% fiction in the program. Students will learn the reading standards through Houghton Mifflin, social studies and science trade books, and interactive notebooks. At the end of the year, the students will delve into the novel:

Charlotte’s Web.

• Writing

• Cursive – In January, all writing is required to be in cursive. At home • 1 st : 20 minutes, 2 nd : 25 minutes, 3 rd : 30 minutes – Goals • Every trimester, students will be required to read five books in their ZPD range with 80% accuracy. See their ZPD range located in the folder. – Point Clubs • There are four clubs that I offer for the year. Each club has a special reward attached to them.

Mathematics

Envision – Online access/assignments will begin by September.

• Students will learn several new concepts within: place value, measurement, multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry . • Goals – Students are required to pass twenty-five facts in two and a half minutes or less: • Now: addition & subtraction (see tests in folder) • 1 st trimester: 1 – 7multiplication tables • 2 division facts • 3 nd rd trimester: 1 - 9 multiplication tables & 1 – 5 trimester: all facts, multiplication & division (1- 9)

• Students should expect 40 minutes a night plus their reading time. • Homework assignments are to be written in the student’s agenda. This is your child’s responsibility. • Please check homework to insure that your child has put his/her best effort • Refer to packet for sample of homework notice.

• Homework is due the following day unless specified in their agendas.

Please provide a designated area for your child to do their homework. Please have the following items available. The district has purchased a typing program for student use, both at school and at home. It will be used in class and assigned for homework once a week. As soon as the district gives us access

codes, you will be given a letter on how to access the program at home.

How Parents Can Help:

• Volunteer in the classroom – Sign up sheet • Volunteer to help at home • Join the PTA • Help with homework or special projects • Have a positive attitude about school • Make sure your child has at least nine hours of sleep and a good breakfast

Due to safety/insurance concerns, younger siblings are not allowed during volunteer times.

*To work at school and to attend field trips you must have a category 2 volunteer form completed and approved be returned to the office.

Field Trips Educational: Beale’s Point, Maidu Center, & City Hall/Folsom Police Other activities: Skating

Per District Policy, there are no siblings allowed on any field trip for safety and insurance reasons. Chaperones need to have a TB test, fingerprints, and a volunteer packet approved two weeks before the event.
