Brief History
• The banks of the Willamette River were the
focus of early town development
• First general store established facing the river
• Riverfront occupied by 20 family homes and
fully removed by 1979

Development of Riverfront Park
• August 1992- Corvallis Riverfront Enhancement Task Force formed
by Mayor Vars
• June 1994- Task force issues draft report and holds open house.
• September 1996- The Downtown Riverfront, is issued.
• December 1996- Commission presents draft park master plan to City
Council. February 1997- City Council holds public hearing on
master plan.
• November 1998- City voters approve $9.5 million, 20-year bond
measure to fund riverbank and riverfront park improvements.
• April 2000- City Council approves integrated park and riverbank
plan.
• May 2000- CH2M HILL (project consultant) submits WRG permit
application to Corvallis Planning Dept
• 2002- Development of Riverfront Park completed
