Adsorption not effective in case of
• Very soluble and small organics
– Examples : methanol, acetone, ethanol, acetic acid, etc in water
– At potable water treatment these compounds are biodegraded, not
adsorbed !
• Dissolved organic salts
– Acetates, lactates, citrates, etc.
• Cations, Anions
Removal of precipitated salts or metals is not by adsorption but
mechanical filtration !
