Moral philosophy and Ethics



Philosophers(

) look for and then critically examine, concepts and assumptions that are generally “taken for granted”.

 各種說法、想法、信念等的根本問題：     What do you mean by that?

How come?

So what?

Why should I, or you, or anyone believe that?



Moral philosophy and Ethics

 Ethics ( 倫理學 ) deals with some general concepts of values as obligation( 義務 ), justice( 正義 ), rights( 權利 ), duties( 責任 ), virtue( 美德 ), beneficence( 慈善 ), etc.  Moral philosophy deals with the evaluation of personal acts, conduct, motivation and policy.



Person(

個體 ): sentience ( 感性 ) 、 consciousness ( 意識 ) 、 reasoning ( 理性 ) 、 self-motivated activity ( 自我動機能力 ) 、 capacity to communicate( 溝通 ), conceptualize( 概念化 ), and to act on principle( 原 則 ) 、 a concept of oneself and recognition of the personhood of other persons. ( 自我與他人個體價值 ) Ayo NUTN website 3

Moral responsibility



“Moral responsibility”(

道德責任

) normally implies knowledge(

), capacity(

), and value significance(

Environmental ethics

 Environmental ethics is concerned with the issue of responsible personal conduct ( 負責任的個體行為 ) with respect to natural landscapes( 自然景觀 ), resources( 資源 ), species( 物種 ), and non-human organisms( 人以外的生物 ).

What is Environmental ethics?

 一般而言， 「環境倫理學」

是系統化探討 人類和其環境的倫理

Science and Ethics

 我們對世界的了解，以及我們對各事物的評價和 價值觀，都顯著的受到科學傳達給我們的內容， 所影響。  面對環境問題的挑戰時，科學與倫理，兩者都是 必要，倘若我們要有改善的進展。  科學沒有倫理，是盲目的、 倫理沒有科學，是虛空的。   Science without ethics is blind; Ethics without science is empty.

 羅斯頓簡介：羅斯頓（ Holmes Rolston III ）在學術界 中被稱為「環境倫理學之父」，是形塑環境倫理學這個學 科的基本特性、範疇和議題的學者。他的環境倫理學是由 內在價值所引發之責任的倫理，中心概念就是「內在價值」 和「整全主義」。羅斯頓最具影響力的作品是 1975 在＜ 倫理學期刊＞所發表具突破性的文章，以及 1988 《環境 倫理學》一書中所表達其成熟、整全的倫理學理論。他的 學術專長在於探討「科學與宗教」交織互動中最核心的議 題，特別是在「生態系與倫理學」方面的論述更是貢獻卓 著。 Ayo NUTN website 23

 撒下花種的豐原市公所估計，這兩株波斯菊，市價最多兩 元。警方找來豐原市公所清潔隊林姓隊員，林員指認說， 為美化新闢道路，清潔隊在路旁空地撒了波斯菊種子。警 方進一步請林員估算價值，林員認為頂多一株一元，也同 意與高婦和解。和解書中，高婦寫道「因不知是公所植栽 而犯錯，經公所林員諒解達成和解，以新台幣兩元和解」。 高婦說，原以為和解就沒事了，但警方仍依竊盜罪將她銬 上手銬移送，先送到警分局，再送到台中地檢署，檢察官 晚上近十時裁定釋回。折騰八小時，才獲檢釋回。嫌犯被 扣上手銬腳鐐，偵訊從派出所轉到分局，再移送地檢署， 您或許認為，應該是個重行罪犯吧，這位偷挖路邊兩株菊 花的婦人，就遭受到這樣的待遇，會不會如婦人家屬所言， 太過分了？警方一再強調，這是逮捕人犯的既定程序，也 是法定的權力，是否執法過當，可受到社會公評。 (2008/2/6, ref. 自由 ) Ayo NUTN website 39

 台東大學勞動教育課，學生自嘲似台傭。台東大學一年級 學生必修的「勞動教育」課，遭學生及家長質疑根本沒看 過老師到課，只派來工讀生點名，結果照樣打出成績。有 人自認為認真掃地，上學期卻只有六十幾分，自嘲被學校 當「台傭」。校方的說法是，勞動服務教育是學校學則規 定．目的是為培養學生愛護環境及動手勞作的美德，學校 不會把學生當台傭，所以不會有老師去盯同學清掃，學校 也相信受過 12 年學校教育及 18 年家庭教育的學生有能力 拿掃把。勞動教育這門課是東大一年級必修課程，每週兩 小時，由學生從事校內環境打掃，雖未列入學期平均成績， 但不及格須重修，及格才能畢業，且分數未達 80 分就不 能申請在校工讀。 (2009/2/19, ref. 自由 )  討論：台東大學的勞動教育課，校方的和學生的說法，何 者較有道理？你贊同哪一方？請說明理由。 Ayo NUTN website 40

 半年舉發 400 件，高市檢舉達人，賺 5 萬 2 。車主趁等紅 燈空檔哈根菸，沒想到，早就被檢舉達人張先生盯上，從 抽菸到亂丟菸蒂，張先生全都錄。高市環保局六科科長董 文傑：「在半年的期間裡面，大概檢舉了大概 400 件左右， 那依照我們的經驗是， 是一名 50 6 成到 7 成是可以成立的。」真的 是叫你第一名啦，高雄市環保局說，去年檢舉排行榜冠軍， 歲退休的張姓男子，不願在鏡頭前曝光的他， 半年舉發 400 多件，違規者付 1500 元罰金後，環保局會 撥 35% ，也就是每件 525 元當作獎金，最後檢舉達人實 領 5 萬 2 。董文傑：「違規的時間，還有違規的地點，以 及詳細的車牌號碼，送到我們環保局來，我們會做審核， 初步的審核，如果這些要件是符合的，那我們給他 ( 違規 者 ) 開單告發。」 (2009/2/19, ref.
