 Students whose fine motor difficulties are
supported more effectively with keyboarding

ideas, word choice, and organization when
writing
Using the Writer
Enrolling and opening a work folder
Press the On/Off key

automatically!

Creative Writing Prompts
 There are 41 writing prompts programmed in the
Writer
 Press the Apps. key. Place the > on writing prompts
and press Enter. Three choices will be offered – by
pressing the downward arrow key, select Browse
prompt list
 Continue to press down arrow key to view prompts
 Press Enter to view writing prompt (if you accept it is
automatically saved as a file in the folder you are in)
 Press Escape to go back to Work Folder screen
 Press N to open a new
file in your “Work
Folder”
 Name your new file:
Writer
 Type the following
sentences:
I had this great dream about when I was a little kid. A
funny little guy came up to me and told me I had three
wishes. He was very nice but I wondered how…
Auto-Thesaurus
 Press the Option key
and the Thesaurus
key the Writer will
scan for overused
words and offer
suggestions.
 Mine turned out like
this:
I had this wonderful
dream about when I
was a little girl. A funny
little fellow came up to
me and told me I had
three wishes. He was
enormously
captivating although I
wondered how…
Thesaurus
Place the cursor under the word you would like to check
for synonyms and press the Thesaurus key.
By pressing the Thesaurus key once or even twice
again, you will be a shown a second or even third
set of word choices.
I’m happy to see you, my friend said

Or try using the root word

Or Enter to replace
Spell Check
Spell check your dream story by pressing
the spell check key.
One of two windows will appear similar to
the Thesaurus screens.
You will either get a no suggestion screen,
a list of suggested spellings, or a Spell
check complete screen.
Replacing the Word
If you locate a word that you believe is the
correct spelling for the misspelled word,
press the Enter key and the word will
immediately be inserted into your text
Writer word prediction
Move your cursor to the bottom of your Dream text
Press Alt-W to open word prediction
Begin to type anything you like
The Writer will automatically offer word options
Press the number that you would like to choose. If
you do not see the word you like, continue typing
the word and more suggestions will appear
Deleting a folder
In order to delete a folder you must be in
that folder
Open your work folder F1-F8 and press
Alt-D

 4. Six Traits of Writing Checklist
 5. Response to Literature Checklist
 6. Persuasive Essay Checklist
 7. Writing Prompts Checklist (automatically
attached to the on-board writing prompts)
 8. (No Checklist)
More cool features
 Written files and Keyboarding reports can be
sent via infrared to both computers and some
printers
 Daily journal with five page writing capacity.
Entry is automatically dated and student may
only write under current day.
 All writing printed from the Writer comes with an
automatic heading that contains: the student’s
name, the teacher’s name, the file name and the
date, and with a student self - assessment
checklist.
