Assessment FOR Learning
Homophones
Elizabeth Bowles
Fourth Grade
South Salem
Objective:
• SOL 4.8 h
• Use correct spelling for frequently
used words, including homophones.
• Homophones are often difficult for
fourth graders. This unit allows
assessment to be documented over
several days, through a variety of
methods.
Day One:
Use Heartsoft’s
Billiards and
Homonyms Game
to introduce the
new words in
context to the
children. The
program tells the
percentage
correct. If any
are missed, the
student practices
them again.

to later in the year.
