Background
Primorsky region has a population of about two million
people.
In the past three years, 1878 people lost their
parental rights and 3169 children were
brought to state rehabilitation entities and
orphanages.
Between 300 and 1000 children live on the
streets of the city of Vladivostok.
Living Hope – The
Organization and
Who We Are
Children like these, have been abandoned by family and society
They live on the street, in sewers
or in any place that is capable of
providing the most meager
shelter.
They struggle daily to find enough
food and shelter to survive.
Living Hope, Vladivostok
Homeless Children's
Rehabilitation Society works to
give these children a chance.
History
Vladivostok Homeless Children's
Rehabilitation Society, Living Hope,
was founded in April 1999.
Rachael Hughes, a citizen of New
Zealand, is the founder and Chairman
of Living Hope. She first came to the
Russian Far East as a humanitarian
volunteer in November of 1997.
During her time here, she was surprised at the quantity and condition
of the children begging for money and food on the streets, thus the
story begins…
