BARIG is short for the Board of Airline Representatives in
Germany. BARIG was founded in 1951 and, on 5 November
1993, was established as a registered association – an
"eingetragener Verein" (e.V.). Airlines with sales or operational
presence in Germany may become BARIG members. We
currently have 106 members and are – to our knowledge – the
largest BAR in the world.
In a sentence, BARIG represents, promotes and protects the
common interests of its members in Germany.
BARIG is highly recognized as the major institution for all airlines
which are active in the German market. The airports, aeronautical
authorities of the Federal Government, the Federal State
Governments, the European Commission and the German Air
Traffic Control respect BARIG's work and regularly consult with
BARIG. BARIG is also frequently in contact with the press, radio
and television.
BARIG's predominant goal is to improve the commercial and
operational conditions for airlines active in Germany. To reach
this goal, BARIG is involved in all important aeropolitical
discussions and decisions, changes in legislation and charges,
curfew regulations and other related matters. BARIG is also in a
continuous dialog with noise commissions, border control and
customs authorities, as well as operators and associations of
other modes of transportation, including the German Railway.

Munich Airport is Germany's second largest airport and
ranks eighth among European passenger airports.
It is operated by Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) and its
subsidiaries. Come and get to know us!
Munich Airport, now Germany's number-two commercial
airport as a result of the dynamic growth it has achieved, is
being used increasingly by airlines as a hub-a pattern
reflected in part by a considerable increase in the volume
of transit passengers, who now number one in five in
Munich.
Munich also set a new record for take-offs and landings in
2004. The 370,000 commercial aircraft movements marked
an 8 percent increase as compared with the previous year.
Also benefiting from the massive growth in traffic was the
airfreight segment, which also reached a new record level
with a 26 percent increase. For the first time, the airfreight
handled at Munich Airport, including trucked freight,
exceeded 300,000 metric tonnes. The key growth driver in
the past year was the continued expansion of hub traffic at
Munich Airport. The percentage of connecting passengers
has now increased from 31 to 33 percent. This rise is
mainly due to the massive expansion of intercontinental
traffic. The number of long-haul flights in Munich increased
nearly 30 percent in 2004, and the passenger total on
these routes actually jumped by more than 40 percent. The
Munich Airport Group (FMG) has started off the year 2005
with a new organizational structure.
The new FMG structure was developed within the
framework "M-Power - fit for the future," a project
designed to realign the company's strategy and improve
profits. The goal of this project, which was launched in the
fall of 2003, is to implement a strategic and organizational
realignment of the FMG with the goal of achieving
sustainable, profitable growth, a significant improvement in
earning power and a marked increase in the value of the
company.

Frankfurt-Hahn is regarded as one of the fastest growing
airports since putting into operation as an civilian airport in
1993.
Within only ten years the former American armed forces
airport has climbed in Germany to one of the top
international traffic airports (on rank 10) and to the fourth
largest freight aerodrome.
One of the main investors in the development of the new
civil facility was Fraport AG, which also runs Frankfurt
Airport, the aim being to reduce the amount of traffic using
their main airport.
Frankfurt Hahn presents itself as a melting pot of travelers
from all the world:
The international airport shows about 60 scheduled flights
within Europe with Low-Cost Airlines like Ryanair, Wizzair
and the intercity express train.
After having started with with a passenger volume of about
7000 a year the airport handles about 8,000 travelers per
day today.
Another section with enormous growth is the cargo
business at Frankfurt-Hahn. Hahn has kept its position as
the fourth largest freight airport of Germany stably behind
Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich. The airport runs on a 24/7
operation and has grown to a major european cargo hub.

The M.R.Stefanik Airport Bratislava is the principal
international airport of Slovakia with 24 hours operation. It
is situated 9 km north-east from the city. Current system
of airport runaways enables landing of all airliners.
Operational performance for the previous year is very
good. Last year, the airport company served 894 thousand
passengers, a nearly twofold increase over the year 2003.
This year, dynamic growth is already happening.
The growing interest in airline transportation is directly
related to Slovakia’s access to the European Union. Open
borders and the possibility of travelling to European cities
for learning, vacation or business attracts more Slovaks to
the skies. Another positive aspect of air transportation is
the entry of low-cost airlines like SkyEurope and EasyJet.
More airlines and an expanded schedule of destinations
and the resulting growth in the number of passengers
presents a challenge for the airport to provide improved
security and better quality of services. Since its
transformation to a joint capital company in May 2004, the
airport has been working on implementing significant
changes expected to increase its current capacity.
