Fatiha
Translation of Surah Fatiha
In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds.
Most Gracious Most Merciful.
Master of the Day of Judgment.
Thee do we worship and Thee aid we seek.
Show us the straight path.
The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace
Those whose (portion) is not wrath and who go not astray.
Surah (Chapter) 1
God’s Relationship With Humanity
When my servants ask thee concerning Me,
I am indeed close (to them);
I listen to the prayer of every suppliant
when he calleth on Me;
Let them also with a will listen to My call
and believe in Me; that they may walk in
the right way.

Quran on Race Relations
O mankind! We created you from a
single (pair) of a male and a female
and made you into nations and
tribes that ye may know each other
(not that ye may despise each
other). Verily the most honored of
you in the sight of Allah is (he who
is) the most righteous of you. And
Allah has full knowledge and is well
acquainted (with all things).
49:13
Quran on Religious Freedom
Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out
clear from error; whoever rejects evil and believes in
Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold
that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all
things.(2:256)
Those who believe (in the Qur'an) and those who follow
the Jewish (Scriptures) and the Christians and the
Sabians and who believe in Allah and the last day and
work righteousness shall have their reward with their
Lord; on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.

The Prophet Muhammad's(PBUH) Last Sermon
After praising & thanking GOD he said: "O People, lend me
an attentive ear, for I know not whether, after this year, I
shall ever be amongst you again. Therefor listen to what I
am saying to you very carefully & TAKE THESE WORDS
TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE
TODAY.
O people, just as you regard this month, this city as sacred,
so regard the life & property of every Muslim as a sacred
trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful
owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.
Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that
HE will indeed reckon your deeds. Beware of Satan, for the
safety of your religion.
The Prophet Muhammad's(PBUH) Last Sermon
O people it is true that you have certain rights with regard
to your women, but they also have rights over you.
Remember that you have taken them as your waives only
under ALLAH's trust & with His permission. If they abide
by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed &
clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well & be kind to
them for they are your partners & committed helpers.
O people, listen to me earnest, worship your LORD, do your
five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadan, &
give your wealth to Zakat(Charity). Perform Hajj
(Pilgrimage) if you can afford to.
The Prophet Muhammad's(PBUH) Last Sermon
All mankind are from Adam & Eve, an Arab has no Superiority
over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has superiority over an Arab;
ALSO a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any
superiority over white except by piety & good action. Learn that
every Muslim is a brother to another Muslim & that the Muslims
constitute one brotherhood.
Remember, one day you will appear before the GOD & answer
for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of
righteousness after I am gone.
O people, NO PROPHET OR APOSTLE WILL COME AFTER
ME & NO FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefor, O
people, understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind
me two things, The QURAN & my examples the Sunnah & if you
follow these you will never go astray.
Day of Judgment

Belief in Hereafter.
Accountability for how one lived life.
Accountability for one’s actions.
Balance of both good and bad deeds.
The 5 basics of Islam
SHAHADAH - Declaration of faith
SALAT - Five compulsory daily prayers
ZAKAH- Welfare distribution
SAWM - Fasting in Ramadhan
HAJJ - Pilgrimage to Makkah
Shahadah (Declaration of Faith)
• Believe that there is nothing worthy of
worship except the God, and Mohammed
(Peace Be Upon Him) is His last
messenger.
Meaning of Shahadah
Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- Who knows (all
things) both secret and open; He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the
Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of
Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the
Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the
partners they attribute to Him.
He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or
Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is
in the heavens and on earth, both declare His Praises and Glory:
and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
(59:22-24)
Salat (Prayer)
• Worship 5 times a day

Zakat (Charity)
• Eligible Muslims pay alms, on an annual
basis that helps to “purify” their wealth.
• Funds collected are distributed to the poor,
orphans, and needy in society.
• Zakah consists of giving 2.5% of one’s
accumulated wealth.
Saum (Fasting)
• Cannot eat from dawn to sunset
• Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan
• Fasting helps Muslims:
– O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed
to those before you that ye may (learn) self-restraint.
2:183
– Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a
guide to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment
(between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at
his home) during that month should spend it in fasting but if
anyone is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made
up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you He does not
want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the
prescribed period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you;
and perchance ye shall be grateful.
2:185

Dietary Restrictions
• For meat to be permissible it must be slaughtered from a
person who believed of existence of the God.
• Meat in the United States meets this requirement.

been slaughtered by a Muslim.
• Such meat is usually termed Halal.
Not permitted:
• Pork based products: including gelatin (kosher gelatin is
okay)
• Alcohol products: including in cooking

• The Act of Struggling and Persevering.
• Struggling to better oneself
• Struggle to overcome adversity
– Adversity tests ones virtues.
– Jihad is for example fighting to remain patient when patience is
difficult not when it is easy.
• My standing before you is an example of Jihad.
Jihad
• Fight in the cause of God those who fight you but do
not transgress limits; for God loveth not
transgressors. 2:190
• If they seek peace, then you seek peace. And trust
in God for He is the One that hears and knows all
things. 8:61
Modesty in Islam
Islam values modesty as integral to
societal morality.
Muslims see the exploitation of
sexuality or sexual imagery, especially
feminine sexuality, as clear evidence
for the need for modesty.
Modesty in Islam applies to both men
and women.
Modesty consists of both appearance
and actions.
Hijab as Sign of Modesty
Muslim men and women dress in
accord with the rules of modesty.
Muslim women cover their hair in
accordance to the Quran.
Muslim women who cover their hair do
not regard it as a sign of oppression
but one of liberation from being judged
purely on physical qualities.
Those who wear hijab should be
treated with respect.
