Gladys Eisenach non nobile ma, chiusa nella sua vita come in un castello, vive la sua vecchia nobilt, il cui blasone dato dalla sua (un tempo) sfolgorante bellezza e mostra nel suo scudo araldico un visone rampante e un tacco 12 nero in campo rosa shocking che calpesta a morte il buon senso.

Non si pu dire che il romanzo non sia ben scritto, n che manchi lo studio psicologico. E' che lo studio applicato al quasi nulla, a un personaggio la cui abissale, vacua stupidit non mi ha incuriosito nemmeno quando traligna nel crimine (il primo crimine, quello commesso verso la figlia, cui si addice pi Giuseppe Consolini che il Rrrouge ossigenato e con i Rayban bianchi).

Nel mio ristretto e piccolo-borghese contesto, tendenzialmente incline a un banale pragmatismo, un personaggio cos diventa rapidamente una caricatura, per non dire una macchietta. Se la Gladys fosse venuta a confidare le sue presunte pene a me, che sono un ragazzotto di paese, le avrei risposto "Non ti lamentare se domani non ti cercheremo pi" (o forse, "Cazzo dici? Piantala").

Capisco che la storia aveva per l'autrice forti, sicuramente drammatiche valenze autobiografiche. Ma se pagina dopo pagina la storia si ripete, sempre ugualmente futile, forse sarebbe bastato un racconto breve. Invece, 194 pagine.

Chi sei contessa? Tu non sei pi la stessa.

PS: Riflettendo sui feedback al mio commento (grazie a tutti), mi venuta in mente l'immagine pi efficace per sintetizzare la mia opinione. Questo pi che un libro mi sembra una bambola voodoo, che la Nemirovsky si preparata al solo scopo di infilzarla di spilloni per vendicarsi di sua madre. Umanamente, comprensibile. Per me, lettore (e non parente, amico o psicanalista di Irene), irrilevante.

Riesce a catturare il lettore nel vortice della sua scrittura e chiudendo il libro, resta in bocca la piacevole consapevolezza di aver gustato un pregiato champagne millesimato.
